Fiona Cobain
Clinical Psychologist
BA Psych (Hons), MClin Psy
Fiona believes that the client is the expert of their own experience and that it is the therapists job to help empower, organise, understand and hold space for their client’s experiences. Having experienced therapy from the other side, Fiona approaches psychology as an equal partnership having known the difficulties of implementing the skills she teaches.
Fiona has had experience working as a Clinical Psychologist across public and private health settings, primarily Adult community mental health. From this background, she has a thorough understanding of trauma informed care and the importance of creating a space where client and therapist work together to create the focus of therapy. Fiona has training in many evidence- based treatments such as CBT, ACT, DBT, Narrative therapy, CBT-E and TF-CBT and aims to support clients in finding the best fit for them.
Fiona primarily works with older adolescents and adults who need support with:
- Big emotions
- Building confidence and self-compassion
- Lived experience of psychosis
- Major life changes and transitions
- Experiences of self and identity
- Experiences influenced by health, dis/ability, and mental health
- Addressing experiences of abuse and violence (including systemic violence)
- Relationships with partners, family, friends and/ or community
- Experiences influenced by faith, culture, race and/ or migration
Outside of work, Fiona loves spending time with her people, her cats and working on her many incomplete craft projects.
